Teresa Lanceta, artist
Talia Weltman-Cisneros, SMU Lecturer of Spanish
Spanish artist Teresa Lanceta (Barcelona, b. 1951) is known for her intricate, colorful work in the medium of textiles. She adopted weaving as her preferred form of artistic expression in the early 1970s, seeing it as a medium ideally suited to bridging the divide between art and craft. Through her travels, she has drawn inspiration from many cultures, and has been particularly influenced by Romani and Moroccan nomadic weavers. Lanceta is the second artist to participate in the MAS: Meadows/ARCO Artist Spotlight program, a collaboration between the Meadows Muse...

What a lovely, insightful, well presented , informative and colorful lecture, and while I'm grateful that the lecture was uploaded at all, what a pity that the museum didn't care enough to provide a decent video quality, rendering all the beautiful images in the slides pixelated

A very interesting talk, but with two caveats. The feedback on the mic was dreadful. Crackling and popping, painful to the ear and obscuring the speech. Almost unforgivable was the position of the speaker in vision where he blanked out a number of the visuals. Surely someone ought to have had the wit, and skill to back project within a portion of the screen that would always be visible.

Inaccurate, asinine and very disappointing narration, eg. smugly oblivious to the contextual issue of European woman having been kidnapped for Arabian harems or being violated by invading military troops, par course, etc. . But, as they say, The art of being a woman is knowing how to take a compliment.

Europeans see dignity and a cooler approach to seduction as being beautiful, which is why the lecturer misinterprets the look on the sitters faces.Grins are not considered abeautiful.

I'm struggling to find books on all these artists, might anyone watching this point me in the direction of any?? I've just purchased on line a catalogue of the Meadows Museum where I'm hoping to at least find some of this work
